Why your website gets visits and no bookings

26 September 2026 · 8 min read

People are finding you. They are just leaving before they book. These are the seven places they fall out, how to check each one on your own site, and what the fix looks like.

Most owners who tell me their website does not work are wrong about why. They think nobody is visiting. Usually people are visiting. They are leaving, and they are leaving at one of the same seven places every time.

Each one takes a minute to check on your own phone, no technical knowledge needed. Check them on your site as you read.

1. It is slow on a phone

Almost everyone who finds a local business finds it on a phone, often on mobile data, often while doing something else. A page that sits blank for a few seconds does not get a second chance. They go back and tap the next result.

How to check: turn off your wifi, open your site on your phone, and count. If you get to three before you can read anything, it is too slow.

The fix is almost always the same: pictures that are far bigger than they need to be, and too many things loading before the words appear. It is fixable without changing how the site looks.

2. There are no prices

This is the one owners fight me on hardest. "Every job is different." "Competitors will see." "I want them to call so I can explain."

Here is what happens instead. A person who cannot see a number assumes it is too much. Some of them message to ask, then wait, and you are now answering the same question for the fortieth time this week. The rest never message at all, and you never find out they were there.

A private hospital I built for had exactly this. Every enquiry used to be a phone call: what does a scan cost, do you do this, how do I pay. Once the prices and services were on the page, those questions answered themselves at any hour, and the front desk got its day back.

The fix: you do not need every price. A starting price for each main service, "from TT$300", is enough to keep the right people reading.

3. Everything needs a phone call

If the only way to start is to call you, you lose everyone who finds you after hours, everyone at work who cannot make a call, and everyone who simply does not like calling. That is a lot of people.

The fix: give them one way in that does not need you to pick up. A booking page that holds a real time, a quote form, or at the very least a WhatsApp button. Whatever you choose, the button should say exactly what happens next: "Book your appointment", not "Submit".

4. There is no one tap way to reach you

A phone number written in the footer as plain text makes a phone user copy it, switch apps and paste it. Most will not bother.

How to check: tap your phone number on your own site on your phone. If a call does not start, it is broken. Do the same for WhatsApp.

The fix: a proper call link and a WhatsApp link that opens a chat with a message already typed. The second one takes thirty seconds to make: it is wa.me/ followed by your full number with the country code and no spaces, for example wa.me/18685550123.

5. You do not show up on Google

A website only works for people who already know your name, unless Google shows it to the people who do not. Those are the new customers.

How to check: on your phone, search for what you do plus your town, the way a stranger would. "Lash extensions Chaguanas", not your business name. If you are not on the first screen, including the map, you are invisible to new customers.

The fix starts with your Google Business Profile, not your website: the right category, your hours, real photos, your services with prices, and reviews. It is free, and it is the single highest return hour you can spend this month.

6. There is nothing to trust

Stock photos and no reviews read like a business that might not exist. People are trusting you with money, their time, and sometimes their body or their home. They look for proof.

The fix: photos of your real work, your real space and your real team, even if they are taken on a phone. And reviews from real customers with first names. Five real ones beat fifty that look bought.

7. Enquiries sit unseen

This is the most expensive one, because by the time it happens you have already won the customer. They found you, trusted you and filled in the form. Then it landed in an inbox nobody checks, and three days later they booked somewhere else.

How to check: fill in your own contact form right now, and time how long it takes to reach your phone. If the answer is "it does not", this is your first fix, before anything else on this list.

The fix: every enquiry should land somewhere you already look all day, instantly, with the person's name and number, so you can reply while they still care.

What to do with your result

Fix them in this order: 7, then 3 and 4, then 2, then the rest. The first stops you losing people who already chose you. The next three stop you losing people who were ready to choose you. The rest bring more of them in.

None of these need a new website. Most need an afternoon.
