Google Ads for clinics: track paying patients

10 October 2026 · 2 min read

Before spending more on ads, connect the search, the booking and the money your clinic actually collects.

A full enquiry inbox can still leave gaps in your diary. If you own a clinic, medspa or medical centre, judge your advertising by the path from a relevant search to a paying patient. A click alone does not tell you whether someone booked, arrived or paid.

Start with one service and available slots

Choose a service your clinic can deliver and has room to book. Check the actual search results for that service in the area you serve. Look at the ads, the competing pages and what a person sees after clicking. Do not assume that being at the top means an appointment follows.

Send that search to a page answering the booking questions: what you offer, where you are, the price or a clear starting price, and how to choose a time. Use your existing booking system when it works well. Make the next step easy to find on a phone.

  1. Relevant searchMatch the search to an available service and a useful page.
  2. Clear bookingGive the person an obvious next step and answer their practical questions.
  3. Attended visitFollow the enquiry through reception, attendance and payment.

Count the stages separately

Record enquiries, booked first visits, attended first visits and collected revenue. Use a consistent source and reporting period. Someone clicking the phone button is an interaction; it is not proof of a completed call or a paying patient.

Google itself distinguishes qualified leads from converted leads. The conversion step is something the advertiser defines. Check what your account calls a conversion before reading a report as patient growth.

Keep your patient records separate from your marketing reports. Record aggregate outcomes for the business review; decide any advertising measurement setup with the clinic's privacy requirements and platform rules in mind.

Check the rules for your service

Healthcare advertising has restrictions that depend on the service and targeting. Google's health personalised-advertising policy restricts advertiser-curated audiences when promoting sensitive health categories, including certain procedures. Do not copy a retail remarketing plan into a clinic campaign without checking it.

Find the weak link before adding spend

Give the team a way to report what happened after the enquiry. Start with the free patient-growth tracker and reception follow-up scripts. Then decide whether the next improvement belongs in the campaign, the booking page or the reception process. That is a more useful decision than buying more clicks while the same gap stays open.
